Snow came down cold and heavy in Oriental North Carolina on February 13 2010

SOUTHERN CROSS Feb 13 2010 at our dock.

.  Everything was covered by this cold wet blanket over 4 inches thick.  We  had been told by local residents that it usually is 50 degrees most days in the winter.  Ha, not this winter, wouldn’t you know.   Really does not make you want to go out and work on the boat I can tell you.  This is what the boat looks like in our back yard,   in the cul-de-sac of Tarpon Channel off the Neuse River.

SOUTHERN CROSS
Greetings from Oriental, North Carolina

Now that our boat is safely ensconced in our back yard at 404 Ragan Road in Oriental North Carolina we are settling in to shore life. Original plans were to begin work immediately on the boat. However, “best laid plans of mice and men” soon go awry.

The house had been on the market for quite some time and prior to that had not been lived in by the owners, but by renters. As most of you will know, renters do not take care of homes well as the owners do, so many things had to be attended to. We are still in the midst of that. Then it is the fall migration season for cruisers to be headed south.

It has been big fun to host the cruisers we have met along the way, and “pay it forward” at the same time. It has been ‘grand central station’ here while this mass of south-bounders stop by.
