January 2004:

Happy New Year, may you and yours enjoy health, happiness and prosperity in the time to come.  Our New Year's resolution is to post Journal entries here for you this year while (slowly) bringing the site up to date.  We are sorry for no updates since we left Ohio in October 2002.  D has been keeping many of you up to date via email, but Don the web master has been lax in this area, although busy in others.

The Southern Cross is docked in Clearwater, Florida at present.  We will spend a couple of months here on boat projects (yes, they are never ending) before exploring the neighborhood.  We plan to be back in the Chesapeake Bay for the Dickerson Rendezvous in June, then go north again to visit Maine and the Canadian Maritimes this summer.  Don is hoping for a picture of an iceberg abeam...From the upwind side - again by Carl and Judy of Gypsy

Since leaving Ohio 14 months ago, we have traveled 4,600 nautical miles, crossing New York via the Erie Canal and traversing the East Coast from Maine to Florida.  We spent the winter living aboard, iced in through a cold snowy winter in Maryland.  We endured hurricane Isabel, and enjoyed nature's beauty at sea and in the tranquility of numerous anchorages.  Along the way we have completed major and minor boat projects, and made many, many, many friends.

We've matured into the cruising life during this past year, just as our cruising friends predicted.  It is a lot different than we had imagined, but totally satisfying to date.  Our initial emotions have been replaced with awe, pleasure, and contentment.  We see no end to the journey.

So, please join us here at this first attempt at a web site, and enjoy.  Email feedback@svsoutherncross.com and let us know what you think of the site, or ask us anything you would like, for that matter.

Check back from time to time as we update the site and our journals, on our journey, what/where ever it may be...

Above all, may you have Fair Winds always!

D and Don
